DO IT LIKE CHRIS

Progress Group

Hey, I'm Chris...

...29 years old and lead fitter at EBAWE. There are other names for this title, for example: plant fitter, fitter special mechanical engineering, fitter plant construction, industrial mechanic plant construction, team leader international assembly or assembly team leader.
In any case, I'm looking for great colleagues who are either electricians or mechanics.

As a lead fitter, my job is to coordinate and monitor the assembly and installation of production systems at our customers' sites worldwide. To do this, I instruct the employees on site, plan processes and make arrangements with the customer. I also train our customers' employees to operate the production plant. In the time between assembly assignments, I support the production and commissioning of machines at the site in Eilenburg.

I am a trained plant mechanic and had two years of professional experience before I joined EBAWE. When I started, I had metalworking skills, could weld, read engineering drawings and work from them. And I had a forklift licence ;-)
I didn't have any experience abroad yet and my English wasn't that good either. But that wasn't an obstacle. I wanted to develop further.

I've been with EBAWE since 2014. In the same year, I was given the opportunity to work on a project in Russia. A year later, I managed a project in Malaysia completely by myself. I also worked on assignments in Europe, Belarus, Australia and Singapore.

I really enjoy the work. When I read the advert from EBAWE looking for fitters, I couldn't imagine it at first. But I said to myself, come on, give it a try - and I haven't regretted it. I love travelling and getting to know foreign countries around the world. And it's always a special feeling when the huge installation is set up and you can see what you've achieved. Only then do you realise the dimensions of such a complete production plant.

I learnt English at school and during my training. I was able to improve it very well during my first assignments abroad. And where English is spoken, everything runs smoothly. It was more difficult for me back then in Russia, as I didn't speak the language very well. But there are translators and, as you know, you grow with your tasks. It's definitely a great experience. And you get to know the country and its people in a very special way.

My private life and my professional life go well together because I involve my favourite people at all times. I'm not away all the time, I come home occasionally and make time for friends and family. It's not always easy, but if your family and your girlfriend go along with you, you'll find a way.

And yes, my friends are a little envious ;-) They are always curious about my new experiences and what I can tell them about the project, the country and the people. And they are always happy about the many private photos. That way they can take part in my exciting life.

Your first 100 days

If you are new to our company, it is important that you get to know your colleagues from different departments. After all, our premises in Eilenburg will become like your ‘home’, so you will get to know it bit by bit.

Theory is nice, but practice is much better! That's why we won't hold you back. You can work directly on projects right from the start. You learn much faster that way ;-)

Let's start with option 1, where you go straight on the journey:

On the first day, you will receive your work clothes at our premises in Eilenburg. You will get to know your team personally and receive an initial briefing.
You will then travel directly to the assembly site with an experienced fitter to familiarise yourself with the plant and processes. This assignment abroad lasts 5-6 weeks. After your return and before you start again, you will of course have a long weekend at home.

For construction sites within Germany or the surrounding area, the assembly assignments last 2-3 weeks.

Option 2 is a little different:

On the first day, you will receive your work clothes at the Eilenburg site. You will get to know your team personally and receive an initial briefing.
In the first 1-2 weeks at our premises in Eilenburg, you will familiarise yourself with individual components in production.
You will then go directly to assembly together with an experienced fitter to get used to the plant and processes. This assignment abroad lasts 5-6 weeks. After your return and before you start work again, you will of course have a long weekend at home.

For construction sites within Germany or the surrounding area, the assembly assignments last 2-3 weeks.

Leisure time. Of course!

Sunday is my day off here in Florida, for example. I do a lot of things, explore the cities and spend a lot of time on beautiful beaches. Free time should also bring variety. I want to get to know the country and its people and of course I get out and about. I get lots of tips from local fitters and my growing circle of friends. We can use local hire cars or bicycles for the excursions.

What's so great about EBAWE, Chris?

I was impressed by EBAWE's range of products and services as soon as I joined the company. The company is economically well positioned - no idle time, no short-time working, no recruitment freeze.

You learn a lot, have the opportunity to take on responsibility and the work is very varied. Since joining the team, I have been able to acquire extensive knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics. Thanks to our training courses, I have obtained a licence for the indoor crane, completed a lifting platform course and am now a qualified electrician for defined activities.

My aim is to move into project management later on and continue my career at EBAWE.

I am looking for new colleagues and can only say: if you are adventurous, like travelling, are open to new things and want to take on responsibility, this is the right place for you. The worldwide assignments are certainly super exciting for many! You just have to have the courage to go down this path - the experience you gain is priceless and will definitely stand you in good stead for the future.
